The pearl of the Isefjord

It is not without reason that Orø is known as the Pearl of the Isefjord. The island offers unique and varied nature where you can explore the exciting flora and fauna.

For example, on Orø you can encounter the rare and protected orchid, the mosquito flower which is protected and monitored as part of Denmark's nature conservation program.

You may also be lucky enough to see and hear the protected green toad, also known as the whistling toad because the croaking of the males sounds like whistling trills.

In relatively new Hegneskoven you will find a good trail system leading to the center of the forest - a large meadow. Here you can spend the night in the Hegnegården teepees and enjoy the deep tranquility of the forest.

The forest stretches all the way down to the Isefjord, where you'll find a breathtaking view, or you can relax with the many nature training tools that Hegneskoven also offers.

You also have the opportunity to experience Orø on horseback. Horseback riding is allowed on most of the the island's trails. You can contacte Orø Riding Club to hear more about the possibilities.

Orø is an obvious destination if you want to go hiking or biking where precisely the footpaths provide plenty of opportunities and experiences

If you're heading out on the water, Orø is definitely worth a visit. The coasts offer great sea trout fishing, but you can also catch eel, flatfish and garfish when in season.
